The Folk Art Museum of Perachora was founded in 2017 through the initiative of members of the local community, with the aim of preserving and showcasing their cultural heritage. Under the visionary leadership of Marika Georgiou, residents of Perachora generously donated historic artifacts and entire heirloom collections, forming the foundation of the Museum.
In 2023, the Museum underwent a major renovation to better present its ever-growing collection—now numbering over one thousand folk art objects—according to modern museographic principles.
The museum’s permanent exhibition is organized into six thematic sections, highlighting aspects of the municipality’s history over the past two centuries.
The collections include items of decorative and applied arts, ceramic vessels, agricultural tools, weaving implements, and traditional costumes, reflecting the local character and identity.
As part of this project, MUEVO provided ten custom-designed glass showcases to house some of the Museum’s most prominent exhibits, including:
-
the “Gioukos”, a premarital tradition involving the collection of dowry materials,
-
the traditional bridal costume known as the “Mountafissa”, and
-
“Sigounia” vests, made of wool and embroidered with multicolored silk motifs symbolizing the cycle of life.
